When i bought my 2nd hand tank it came with a aqua Vital 200w heater,i noticed today the water is cold, the temp is set to 26c if i turn it to max it comes back on,as soon as i turn it back down to 26 it goes off
I am assuming its had it,just confirming before i buy a new one

would it be ok to buy 2 100w heaters,my thoughts are should one fail the other should keep going until its replaced

thanks

Maybe buy 2 x 200w heaters and just keep one as a spare?

keep turning it up gradually (every 8 hours or so) until your tank is at the desired temperature....the scale on the heater is not always accurate....you may need to set it to 28 or 30 to get a temperature of 26

Bin it, I have had trouble with heaters, it isn't reliable, get a new one. not worth the hassle.

How long has the heater been in the tank? My heater took a few hours to get the cold water up to temp.

I switched it on last week last time i looked was Monday night the light on the heater was off so i wrongy assumed it was upto temp,it was tonight when i put my hand in the water,i realised it was cold
i'm not taking any chances i'll get a new one

Gaz this happened to me not long ago, same thing light on no heat, I sent the company an email telling them what happened, course I had binned the receipt so I could return it but then I had a fault on another which I did return.
The other heater was opposite, this had the light on and wouldn't turn off, it nearly boiled my fish luckily I spotted it in time.

My heaters were different makes to your though, luckily they are not that expensive so a new one won't break the bank, or look on Ebay for a cheap spare as well I did.
