Ok, so I knew it would happen with boy platys and girl platies in the same tank :*) ...
Trouble is, the tank is pretty much at it's max capacity already :look: ...
So I'd already decided that if I (well the fish, not me!) had any more births, the fry would just have to fend for themselves, if they got eaten, I reckoned it was a bit of variety of diet for the other fish, if they survived, well, good for them, I'd have to come up with a plan to relocate em
*wonders if the girlfriend would like a fish tank for her up coming birthday    *

Now tho, I'm having 2nd thoughts, seeing them swimming around the plant roots, makin a dash for it to swim about a bit of bogwood ...
I might just have to separate them into a fry tank and look after them properly.... :S

My Platy gave birth to 14 fry, 6 of which where eaten by my 2 clowns. The remaining 8 are growing and are very healthy looking, even at times feeding beside the larger fish.I am probably going to wait until they are a bit bigger before seperating them and seeing who will take them off my hands. My tank isnt big enough for 8 new fish.

It is hard, isnt it? I know I should will mine to die, but I don't, it's all I can do not to intervene to save them.

I started off losing every batch of fry for the first few months. Then I saved a small number in a breeding trap and bought some more plants for when I released them into the main tank. After that first batch (3 survivors), everybody seems to survive in my tank. Partly because of the plants, partly because the adults get confused by fry of all different sized shooting part their noses, so end up not even catching the newborns. I am comforting myself with the thought that the ones that can cope with this are bound to be the best and brightest of the fry. But I am definitely going to need a new tank soon.

I love seeing them peek out from the safety of the plants and dashing away from the bigger ones.

Hmm ... havent seen any since to save :(
I guess they werent fit enough to survive :byebye:

My platies live in my 55g. Still a good amount of room for them in there. Most fry don't survive with the catfish in there, the angel and the loaches. Had one from the last lot survive and she is doing well. Seems passed easily edible stage now.
It's not that I don't want to save the fry just that it's impossible to know when the girls have them. The tank is big and has alot of hiding places. Getting them out would be close to impossible. And far too stressful for all involved.
Hugs,
P.
