So my water is hard 20 degrees; pH 7.8-8.0; with the stock listed in my sig I have whittled my choice down to 3, 1 group of which I hope may inhabit the upper regions of the tank at least some of the time...

1. Lake Kutubu rainbowfish; Melanotaenia lacustris

2. Celebes rainbow; Telmatherina ladigesi

3. Golden Wonder Panchax; Aplocheilus lineatus

Any suggestions on which of these would be gratefully received; I have discounted ABFs, and shiners (due to the cost); hatchets as they are not water compatible; maybe halfbeaks? The surface has floating plants; frogbit and pistia stratoites but only to ~10% cover so far..

Personally I'd go with one of the rainbows. The panchax are very territorial and most likely you would end up with one maybe two males and a bunch of females. Another rainbow I would recommend would be the dwarf or praecox rainbow. Mine always stay in the top half and the males have great color.

Thanks for that, I'll check them out :good:
