Hi all, another question..... Have a 16 gallon tank just quietly running in the background,it is ready for fish, but there is a film of something on the top of the water, when viewed from undeneath,it looks a milky/pale blue color.

Anybody know what causes it? or how to get rid of it? Don't want to put fish into it til I'm happy its safe to do so..

As there is nothing in it, it only has an aqua 1 internal filter, which sits way below the waterline,so no surface agitation, would that make a difference?

TIA

I had this happen in an empty tank, so I moved the filter up so it was breaking the water and it disappeared over night. You could try this and see if it works for you.

Its a very common thing to happen, do what dani has suggested and it will remove it.one thing people should wach for is when you have used ointments and creams etc, make sure you have washed your hands properly before entering the tank.

I've been informed in the past this is calcuim forming. No harm to the tank. You can use your filter to break it up or use kitchen roll once a week to skim it off.
Hope this helps

I did wonder if breaking up the surface would remove it, thank you everyone who said the same

It was good to have my own thoughts confirmed

yep, I agree with everyone else... I've had it on my tank in the past, and it did no harm to the fish, even newly-introduced discus.

you want the filter breaking the surface orelse there will be no oxygen getting into your water so id move the filter up anyway!

:D I did say there was nothing in the tank at present, just turning the water over :D

But thank you
