My tank has been set up now for about three weeks, still going through the cycle process.  Waiting for our fish guy at my place of work to come clean our tank, so that I can get something from the work tank to help mine, as it has been running for over 10 years.

But in the meantime, what API products do you recommend I have on hand.

I purchased the API water testing kit.
There are a lot of API products that you can add to the water, but wondering what recommendations you have on the standby products to keep on hand all the time.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Sherry

Test kits and dechlorinator are all you really need.

It's pretty much a waste of money having anything else, with the possible exception of some salt, as most medicines will lose potency, if stored for any period of time, and most curable disease won't kill fish before you have time to get to an LFS.

Thankyou fluttermoth,

This is good to know.

Forgot how expensive this hobby can be when just starting out, and really don't want to purchase things that aren't necessary.  Would rather save the extra money to spend on fish when the time is right.

I have a freshwater test kit (API), dechor (Prime) and food.  I occasionally have spare filter floss (depending on when the next change is warranted).  That's about all.
