Hey All!

Here's some pics I've just taken today of Elise, my sunset platy! I'm not sure how far along in her pregnancy she is, (probably a week if that) but you can see for yourself!
Comments welcome!

Whatcha all think? :good:

EDIT:
BTW, I beleive that male is the father (blue platy)
What kind is he anyways? He's the only other platy in the tank with her, and she's never been pregnant before, (not that I know of)

Those are some pretty looking platys! How did you get the pictures to be so nice and clear?

Oh! I turned the light off in the room, and focused the camera almost maxed zoom, it's a bit "icky" looking, but that's cause the water spots on the tank
I also had flash on, since the light in the room was off (not my choice, the light burnt out)

I wonder how far along she is :S

Im no expert but
I'm guessing not to far because she seems to not have a gravid spot yet

true, I looked very close & saw a bit of black inside her stomach, (gravid spot I believe) as I've never seen it before :p

That's actually a common misconception. Not all fish get gravid spots. It's more accurate to look at the shape of her belly. When she is ready to give birth she will become antisocial and retreat to a more private area of the tank. Her belly will also square off at the back by her anal fin. So, that white tube you see now will be straight across in a horizontal line from her stomach instead of tapering upward like it is now.

This correct not all livebearers produce a gravid spot, and in platies it's quite common for the have coloured scales over this, which then makes trying to use a gravid spot pointless.

However the platy has a while to go yet, so dont worry for at least 2 weeks

I must agree with Helterskelter. She is probably at least 2 weeks from her drop. She is becoming large but is not squaring off at all yet.

Ah okay, thanks you two! I was curious as to when she was going to drop, I always know it's around when they get "squared" off, but I can never tell when that is,... I'm gonna have to look at some posts here to tell when! Thank-you again though!
