can i run a dsb/refugeuim with lr and caulpea and use a skimmer in in that section of my my sump the the next section be miracle mud with caulpea in then the next section bactoballs and the the return for a ocean runner 6500.

i know its say not to use a skimmer with mm but if the skimmer is skimmer in the dsb section where the tank water flows to 1st then then skimmer wouldn't be skimming the minearls out the section where the mm is so i'll be having twice the effect cos the skimmer would be skimmer the rubbish out the tank water running over the dsb/refuguim and then into the mm section ready for the return.

is this correct?

Use of a skimmer with mm is a contentious point. The problem is that by running the skimmer you are removing nutrients from the water that would be used to feed the mineral mud, and as such the mineral mud would not be able to function properly.

Some people have had good results from running both, many have had good results from just one. I would not advise running a skimmer with mm without first talking to people who do so and have done so for some time.

andwg, on the other hand they are now advertising MM Pro systems which do come with a skimmer. <shrug>

Personally I intend to have MM with no skimmer.
