Sump Filter

Hi
I would like to build my own sump filter. I want to breed Betta Splendens,Im planing to keep them in ,,betta baracks'' the water will moving up and down with a dripp system. (examples linked).

Sample is made ( paint quality) from my sump idea.

The questions:
How big should be the sump? (approximetly 200L water need to be filtered)
what type of filter material should I put to each section?
Where would be the best place for the heater? (next to the pump)
