Suitable?

Hi All

I'm looking to setup a 100-120 gallon tank upstairs in my room. The dimensions are 4 foot by 2.5 foot by 2 foot high, approx 120g. I will set it up against a load-bearing wall. Will it be okay? What's the max weight/tank size you could use?

theres no way of knowing really, unless you can find out what your floors can take (weight)

I've seen similar done before, so am tempted to try it and see how it goes. I was just wondering if someone would say that there's not much chance of it being successful.

Its certainly possible but I'd highly recommend getting a structural engineer to check it our first, it will be a lot cheaper than a new ceiling which wouldnt be covered under house insurance with a tank that size upstairs should it all come crashing down.

You've got to remember that it is a prolonged weight on one spot so although the ceiling may be able to take the weight initially you need to be sure its ok to withstand that sort of weight long term. Whichever size you decide its going to be easily in excess of half a tonne.
