Returning home from work tonight, I was confronted by a terrible sight: my newly-purchased bristlenose plec, dead on the floor. It had obviously jumped out of the tank. Our tank is set into an old TV, which gives it a really neat look but means there's a bit of a gap between the lid and the back of the tank. Apart from "cover the gap", does anyone have any suggestions as to prreventing these tragedies? The water stats were fine, the temperature was fine, and all our other fish (three glowlights, two neons) seem perfectly happy. I still really want a bristlenose. but I don't want to get another (seeing as they're four times the price of danios and tetras) until I can take better care of it, if they're going to do this.
ETA: Upon closer reading, the thermometer says 26.8 degrees, not 26.0. It got pretty hot today, and I know bristlenoses prefer slightly cooler temperatures. If the tank was much hotter in the middle of the day, is it possible that could have induced it to jump out in a panic?
