Suggestions to improve

Hehehe, I used hairnets. I think a couple of pieces of slate I put it on too thick, but that's ok, if it looks bad in a couple of weeks then I'll redo it.

Yeah, it was ALOT of riccia. Bought off aquabid, described as "enough to cover a 10 gallon aquarium". The stuff that's floating in the top of my tank is about 1/3 to 1/2 of how much I got. $30. Not bad!

HAHA........i seen that on aquabid........that is a lot of riccia, you will get the money back in no time if your trade your excess on aquabid as well.

The only thing about laying it too thick is that it will break away from the hairnet a lot quicker than if you layed it thin to begin with, the stuff underneath rots away and it breaks free and you have to start over again.

If its riccia fluitans it will grow very quickly and i guarentee you will be fed up fishing it out of the tank from the surface, if you let it float for awhile it grows rapidly.

Dont be surprised if it takes a little time to take off, plants can take a couple of weeks to acclimatise, but it will look great when it does, your tank is really beginning to take shape, its looking great.

There is another type of riccia.......dwarf riccia......this type is slower growing and a bit more manageable than riccia fluitans........but just sell it on when you have an excess, worth a try anyway.

Thanks Zig =)

I'm already getting some minor pearling in a couple of small spots, pleasing to see.

So, the stuff that I'll be scooping from the surface, if I just leave it for a while instead of binning it, I can let it grow and sell that stuff? What I mean is, it wont be too 'bitty'? It will be good enough quality for someone else to tie down to a piece of slate?

I kinda hate the idea of having it floating in my tank but if it means recooperating the cost of the tank it may well be worth it!

If you use jimboos trick and get some airline hosing and make it into a loop about maybe 12 inches wide, you can hold the excess riccia in this, and let it float at the surface and it keeps it in one place and stops it from going all over.

Selling and trading plants is part of the hobby especially in the states where there is a bigger market for it, loads of people do it, and it pretty well pays for the upkeep of their tanks and keeps those folks in plants as well, you wont get rich doing it but you can definatly sell your excess trimmings on aquabid or other plant forums if they are in good condition and algae free.

You will still be binning a lot of it because you have so much but it would be worth signing up to aquabid and see how it goes with other excess trimmings as well, just keep an eye on it for a few weeks to get a feel for it before you become a seller.

Thanks gfffffffffffffffff :)
