Suggestions Please!

Firstly I wasn't sure where to post this.
Anyways I found the API Master kit for cheap so I bought it. Stupid API 5 in 1 strips I curse you!

Anyways, I just did a 30% water change. Should I do another tomorrow until levels are normal.

15gal tank
2 x platy
1 x mickey mouse
1 x dalmation lyretail
3 x 1day old lyretail fry
set up (July 2011)

platy will drop this week. I want this under control asap!


PH - 7.8
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 5.0
Ammonia - 0.5

Hi bellabean,

with an ammonia reading of 0.5ppm you need to do another water change immediately, in the region of 80-90% with temperature matched and dechlorinated water, and then test again in the morning

have you read through our beginner's resource centre?

Keep doing large waterchanges whenever you get a reading of ammonia or nitrite.

Think of it this way - if you get a reading of 0.5, and do a 50% water change, that brings the ammonia down to .25 - and you're aiming for 0.
