Hi whilst waiting for my tank to cycle i have been looking at some of the fish that i fancy, will these all get along?

3 clown loaches
1 peppermint plec
6 cardinal tetra's
a pair of dwarf gorami's

any other suggestions anyone?

i like any black and white stripy fish 2.

Oh, and maybe a peacock eel..

Hello!
im not sure about the clown loaches as they grow quite large about 10+ inches. So you may not have room for them in the tank. Maybe think about one of the smaller species of loaches.
If you want to do a shoaling tank, you could also get 6 zebra danios as they are "black and white stripey" fish! :fun:
not to sure about the peacock eel - may be a bit too agressive for the schooling fish, but Im not positive.
Either way, hope this helps a little!

Hello,

On the dwarf gourmis front, i would get at least 1 male to 2 females, or the male tends to harrass the female a bit too much. Mine were 1-2, and they still had a fair amount of chasing going on..

Hmm, my boy wanted the eel, il try and persuade him with some shrimp or something along those lines, are they ok kept with the others, also if i dropped down to 2 clowns would that be better?

Are the females the more colourful ones?

What size is your tank? id go with one dwarf gourami and maybe some rummynose tetras as these have white and black stripes on their tails.

Which are the more colourful dwarf goramis, the male or the females, or do they come in lots of diff colours?

So if i did get just 1 gourami wouldt he be lonely with no lady friend? Im thinking 1 boy 2 girls?

i think they are OK with the other fish you mentioned - not a big plec fan so couldnt comment on the loach and plecs together..

however i would suggest 3 are better than 2 they do need the company of others of their own kind, i have 2 and think a third would be better..

how long is the 240? i would imagine size wise you are ok for 3 clowns on the bottom - they are slow to grow but as stated can get quite large - they will need some places to hide though as they are very shy, i have to sneak past my tank so they dont run off and hide all time :)

tank is 4 ft long, yeh i read they are happier in bigger groups but dont wanna overcrowd, i love them tho..i would have a tank full...but i cant :/

There are several different species of loaches that may be more fit to your aquarium. you may want to look into something like that and then you could get 5 or 6. As they prefer to be in groups. I still think 3 clowns would be too many with a 4 foot tank. if you did that once they were full size you couldn't really have anything else in there :/ try looking at yoyo loaches (black and white like you like!), khuli loaches, banded loaches, dojo loaches better yet, just go to www.loaches.com!! You could have a plec with the loaches as long as it isn't a common plec - that would get to big for a tank even your size. Keep in mind that if you want a plec for algae removal only be sure to do some reading on what kind you get!!! Most plecs won't eat the algae and ALL plecs need more care than just algae on your walls. I am unfamiliar with the peppermint plec, so not sure about the info on that.
Hope this helps! Just want to make sure you don't overstock and get a good group of fish you and your son can enjoy! :good:

Ooo yo yo loaches    , 1 more question can you have biggish shrimps, albino frogs or a little crab in the tank. (have talked my son out of the eel, BUT!! need to compromise with something else!
He seem intent on having something other than a fish in the tank!

IME crabs are a bad idea with fish, anything with serious clws is tbh, I'd go with shrimps, there's loads of different varities from 1cm - 8" so you'll find something suitable for sure :good:

the frogs also do better in species tanks, they don't feed very well and with all the competition for food in a community tank more often than not they end up starving :/

however they will do really well in something like a little 2.5g tank, so maybe have the big tank to yourself then let your son have a little tank in his room with crabs/frogs in :D

mmmmmmmmmmm mts
