Suggestions Of My New Stock?

IME crabs are a bad idea with fish, anything with serious clws is tbh, I'd go with shrimps, there's loads of different varities from 1cm - 8" so you'll find something suitable for sure :good:

the frogs also do better in species tanks, they don't feed very well and with all the competition for food in a community tank more often than not they end up starving :/

however they will do really well in something like a little 2.5g tank, so maybe have the big tank to yourself then let your son have a little tank in his room with crabs/frogs in :D

mmmmmmmmmmm mts

Hmm he already has a huge gerbil cage in there, but there could be room for a little tank. would it need heaters, filters lights and every thing else? same as a normal fish tank?

yup, but you can easily get those nice little hex tanks which have the filtration and lighting built into the hood so all you need is a small heater. so it's not gonna take up loads of room or loads of money.

it's something to consider anyway if he's got his heart set on something a little bit different

it would still need a mature filter, but once your main tanks cycled and up and running you can take some of the filter media from there and put it into the little tank and it'd be done instantly :good:

Thanks alot for your help, ps i just clicked on your '1st marine tank' on your sig..totally awesome. Im soooooo jelous..Debs.

If he wants something other that fihs and you want a sort of bottom feeder, maybe Kuhlie loaches would be good. The grow to about 3.5 inces, and many color varieties exist. They look like eels, so maybe he'd like that, but they are very peaceful. Make sure you have some sort of sinking food that other fish won't touch, though, because they are mainly nocturnal (although my black kuhlies come out at feeding time!).

Hmm i will look onto that...thanks..i already have a sinkin foor for my apple snail.. would that do?
