Hi, I am looking to put some fish into my tank that prefer to live close to the surface of the tank.
I have a 240l fully cycled tank thats been running for 10 months, running with an Aquamanta 300 filter.
Its tank mates would be 12 neon tetras, 10 harlequin rasboras, 9 glass catfish & 8 peppered corys all of which tend to spend most of their time on the bottom or midwater. I would like to add something which will will populate the upper third of the tank.

Any one any suggestions

Swordtails or Platys would be a good choice.

Both will hang round at the surface.

A gourami might do well in this tank. If I'm not mistaken, they like the upper part of the tank.

Hatchetfish are the most top-loving fish there are.

Thanks for the suggestions. As all of the fish in my tank are small I don't want to add anything thats going to grow to a size thats disproportionate to all the other fish. How big could hatchetfish grow to?
Same with platys?

I would go with hatchets, if you really want surface dwellers. My marbled hatchets get to about 3-4 cms; silvers and common hatchets get to about 5cms.

Marbled hatchetfish and platies wouldn't look out of place, neither would honey gouramis or dwarf gouramis.

Another suggestion would be a killifish species, some of these can be SERIOUSLY colourful, but some can also be quite feisty.
