I'm looking for products and ideas for boosting fish general health and immunity, this is mainly for my betta (have already posted in bettas but not had much help) so I thought I'd ask about general supplements.....I mean anything from food and vitamin supplements to boost health, to things like indian almond leaves and any tank additives that a natural and will help boost fish immunity to disease.

Found esha minaroll on ebay, is this any good??

Thanks guys!!! :good:

A good varied diet (flakes, dried, frozen, live, and even cucumber and lettuce), regular water and filter maintenance and a nice habitat all help towards having healthy, happy fish!

As for any of these "additives" that are around.. I'm not totally sure that these really work.. but other people may think so, and may use them.. I'd wait for more responses about this one.

I should get some stuff to vary his diet definately, have got garlic to add to his food.....just found Seachem Garlic Guard and Seachem Entice, anybody know if these are good from promoting fish health?
Also dried banana leaves are sold on ebay, not sure if they have the same kind of effect as indian almond leaves.
Anybody know of any aloe vera additives for the fish??

And keep suggestions coming!!! :good:

I feed my fish minced up fresh garlic every now and then. Not sure if it does anything but it keeps me healthy and they seem to love it!

yeah wilder introduced me to garlic for fish, I squash it up and roll the betta's food in the juice and then feed him, supposed to build up their immune system :good:

If you want the best diet for fish, stick to flake food. Scientists spent time researching what fish need in terms of protein and vitamins each day, and then put them into flakes.

Garlic has been noted to aid against bacterial problems (in marine fish only IIRC) as well as often getting reluctant marine fish to start eating. Since then it has become a panacea for many fish owners for everything from velvet to Ich.

The best way to keep a fish healthy is a considered diet (such as flakes gives) together with the cleanest water you can provide.

Thanks :)
being a fighting fish he's fussy and spits flake back out, though maybe if I garlic the flake I can get him to eat that too, he's not had any live or frozen food yet, but I plan to let him have that as an occaisional treat too, as I know too much gives them digestive problems, and we don't need that!

My Dechlorinator has added Aloe Vera! :good:

Its API Stress Coat. I don't really know if it makes any difference but it seems like a good idea.
I currently use tetra aqua's water conditioner.....do you think it would upset my fish swapping to API's stress coat?

I can't see why it would cause a problem, I switched declorinator about 6 months ago because Stress coat had 20% extra free for the same price at the time. I only had my Betta and shrimp at the time, but it didn't bother the shrimp so i'm fairly certain it wouldn't upset the fish.

You're probably right there, I think maybe I shall, going to try indian almond leaves too, lots of betta keepers recommending them, and better food!

It's only Odin and my pitbull pleco at the moment, his community is non existant at the moment while I get new substitutes for his old tank mates! :good:

Waterlife used to do a multivitamin supplement for fish. It was in liquid form and you put some on the food and then fed the fish.
Betacarotene is a good antioxident. It is available from health food stores in 6mg capsules. You can puncture the capsules and put a small amount on frozen food. Let it soak for a minute and then feed. Do that once or twice a week and it can enhance red colouration in fish and improves their health.
Don't do it everyday because it can be a bit strong for them, especially small fish. Betacarotene can be stored in the body and gets converted into Vitamin A when needed.
Most vegetables or aquatic plants will provide the fish with Vitamin C among other things. However, as mentioned above, a well balanced diet, good water quality and the correct water parameters for the individuals in question, should be all that is needed.

More plants may help?
yeah my tank is very underplanted atm, my signature is from ages ago, my lighting's not strong enough for many plants, so trying to find out so low light plants I can buy for a bit to thicken it up....when I move my harleys in they'll need it!
