Hi All

i currently have a fluval edge 23L with a betta and 3 tetra's im planning on re-homing them and turning the Edge to a salty tank.

A need some suggestions for a new tank am planning on buying.
I have my eye on the Juwel Rekord 600 - 63L (Wish i could have bigger but limited room  :-( ) I'm planning on getting it at the start of next month or the start of the new year depending on money so i need some suggestions.

I'm already planning on fitting it with a external filter and getting rid of the horrid internal one to free up the room it takes and putting a better heater in.
so got a few questions.

1. What would be the best External Filter for it?
2. Planted or Plastic plants? (If planted is there anything i need to go planted?)
3. Fish Suggestions?
4. Websites people would recommend for equipment, plants, decor etc

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions  :#

1. I might be wrong but Im sure you can adjust the flow on a Fluval 205, if you can I'd go for a 205 or maybe 105 for the external filter.
2. If it were mine I would go for real plants, I love the look of a planted tank.
3. Stocking is obviously very personal, do you like livebearers? Corys seem to be quite popular around here (I dont like them myself!). Sounds boring but if it was me I'd go for a mix of livebearers, a group of cardinal or glowlight tetras and maybe Honey Gourami.
4. Not sure on this one, Ive never brought things online for my tanks! Always used my LFS!

One last thing I'd say is if I had a choice of tanks in that size range, the rekord would be the last on my list. Might just be me but I dont like the look of them at all. I'd even go for an Interpet fishbox over a rekord!

hi guys tanks for the replies :)

My local fish store is Pets @ Home and i swear to god after buying my hamster from there i will never go back to that store even if you paid me which is why i get all my stuff online and the only other LFS around my area only specialise in livestock very little on the equipment side.

is there anything special i need to do/have for live plants?

and im not fussed on the looks of the Rekord and its one of the cheapest 63L tanks + cabinet stand i have found so far :)

hi again,

have a look at all pond solutions on the internet. they are quite cheap and although the filters etc are not the most sturdy, they do the job and are, in my opinion, not bad value for money.

L :hyper:

thank you i will take a look am sure i have seen there website before when i was looking for a UV Filter for my parents pond didnt realise they did aquarium equipment aswell :p

i took a look at the Fluval external filter previously mentioned, it looks good not bad price but then i caught my eye on the Aquael Mini Kani 80 which is a little cheaper and uses 4 lots of filter media i think anybody had any experience with this?

thanks

To your 4th question

or

both very good websites.. I had used them both... prices are good too!

Have never used either and know nothing about warehouse aquatics but I have looked into seapets before and they almost always seem to be more expensive than elsewhere.

Have you mixed Goldfish with Guppies?

Yes that's correct..

Fantails ideal temperature ranging between 13 to 22°C, and ideal temperature for guppies is 18-25°c. My tank is always between 19-21 c never below or above...

and they are very much fine with each other...

Agree to disagree on that one. I personally think that guppies should be in water between 25-28°c. I'd say that your temperature is fine for fantails but not guppies.

Bring it up, the Guppies will do better at 24-26oC, the fan tails will be fine at this too, just don't go any higher.

The Goldfish will more than likely try and eat/nip the fins of the Guppies when they get bigger.
