I need a background plant species to help fill the space of a tank that is 30 inches long, 12 inches wide, 24 inches tall. The height is the big problem, I've only got decorations and plants on the bottom half of the tank, the top half is bare. Aside from all the ravenous eaters during feeding time

Stocking is as following:
1 Firemouth cichlid
9 black skirt tetras
6 red eye tetras
5 khuli loaches

I've got sand subtrate, and am overfiltered.

I have LED lights coming from a small light bar attached to the hood. I'm unsure of how much light they put out, but I'm thinking it's along the lines of "not much" so low lighting is what I'm going for.

I don't do much in regards to plant maintenance other than adding some sort of plant food stuff when I remember to throw it in, so something that doesn't take much maintenance would be nice. I'm so far successfully keeping java ferns, anubias nana, and anubias barteri successfully.

I want for it to grow relatively, and grow tall enough to fill up all that empty space.

My firemouth is also an avid digger, and I'm not sure if I should be worried about him uprooting or not.

Any suggestions here are appreciated. Thanks much

Was going to suggest Vallis, but unsure how they would grow under LED's. Height isn't an issue, take a look at ZoddyZod's tank...

You could also look into Cabomba, Limnophila, Elodea, Anubias Heterophila, Java Fern tied to something halfway up the tank... There are a fair few options available to you.

Well, my java ferns have loads of sprouts growing on them now. assuming they all survive, I'll have a a lot of freaking java ferns. do you have any recommendations on how to anchor them onto the driftwood? My current one was anchored when I bought it.

This is the type of tank hood I have (I have a 37 gallon model, not 29, and it wasn't a kit, but a tank, hood, and stand combo.) http://www.marineland.com/sites/marineland/products/detail.aspx?id=3452

That's why I don't really know what kind of light it puts out -_-

Any ideas?

I saw some anacharis at the lfs for cheap, would those not be an option?

I'm starting to think this would all be easier if I just invest in a new hood and bigger lights :/

Well, according to the specs page, total watts of the LED lights is 4.62. Aaaand.. I have no idea what that means.

further confusing info for me:

30" x 12" 42 White/3 Blue Watts per LED: 0.11 Total Watts: 4.62 Total Lux: 990 Total Lumen @ 12": 310
