I've just been given the ok to have a fish tank for my ofice at work and I reckon the biggest tank I can stretch to is an 18" x 10" x 10".

Any suggestions of what I can stock it with.

I would like something simple that's got a bit of character. ie a pair of kribs are always interesting to watch, although I know this tank would be too small.

Anyone got a suggestion?

So we're talking about 7 gallons here.

I don't think you can do better than a betta: colourful, with lots of personality, interested in people. And will be happy in that size tank. Plant it up and make it pretty and you'll have a gorgeous showpiece for your desk. You might be able to fit in a trio of pygmy corys as well.

Or if you wanted a school of something, endlers or pygmy rasboras (instead of the betta).

If you can manage a bit more work, you could go for a dwarf puffer.

Or you could keep frogs.

But I still think the betta would be betta.

you could keep lots of species of killifish in there also. most people tend to forget about killifish but they are readily available these days and are quite fun to keep. i keep a trio in a 5 gallon at work!

Possibly a small school of neons.
The best suggestions have already been said ahead of me ;)

Really?

Whenever I see Bettas in shops they seen fairly sedate.

I suppose I could have a betta with a shoal of small fish...

What filtration would the Bettas want? I was thinking of an Eheim Aquaball. Do you think this would be too turbulent?

That's exactly why I would suggest it for a 7 gallon tank. Anything that is fast moving or very active, unless it is very small indeed, is going to want a bigger tank. Though you could get away with a shoal or trio of very small fish (without the betta I would say). Yvez' suggestion of killifish is interesting, I'd pick his brains on that one.

Hi Stew :)

Would it be at all possible to make room for a 20" long tank, instead of 18"? That isn't much, but if you could, a 10 gallon tank is only 20" x 10" and is 12" high. That would make quite a bit of difference in what you could keep though. :D

Probably....

I was looking at "standard" sizes though. Is 20" readily available?

Maybe a betta with a few corys and an ADF would be nice :)

Thicko moment:

ADF?!
