Sudden Tetra Death

Came back home today, and one of my Pink Jewel Tetras was dead! He was perfectly fine the day and night before, and he ate and was normal looking and had no signs of any illness or stress. Water stats are
0 Ammonia
0 Nitrites
0 Nitrates

Temp is about 79 degrees Fahrenheit
Stock is in my signature
No other fish seem ill
Could it have been natural causes or old age? Also, when i found him his eyes were bulging...is this due to decomp or something else?

Two things stand out to me there. Firstly, the fact that you say bulging could be the result of an internal bacterial infection of possibly pop eye disease. Type this into google and see if thats what it looked like. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, why are your Nitrates 0?? The only tank of mine that has zero Nitrates is my Shrimp tank due to the live plants in there. A cycled stocked fish tank should have Nitrates, as these are the result of the bacterial change away from Ammonia.

Honestly, I don't know why i have 0 Nitrates....I mean, its not like i have 0 fish in there...someone on this forum once told me that because I had so little fish and so many plants, that could explain why...Not sure though. I did actually google pop-eye before i posted this, but the tetra looked nothing like those pics. No white skin, no infection, no gross fluid sacs and they werent that popped up. They were just sligtly...i think it has something to due with decomposition, because it had to die sometime between last night and 2:40 pm when i come home....

You can see my tank here. The Wisteria in the back has gotten much thicker and my tiger lotus has sprouted much more and the cabomba in the far left has also grown since the pic was taken.

I would say that it was stocked enough to produce nitrates but fair enough. If you have not recently added any plants or fish, then the only other thing I can think of is that the fish was weakend by the Ich outbreak you have recently had. With no other visible signs then not sure sorry.

I actually did add two more pink jewels two days ago.....and that ich outbreak was about 2 1/2 months ago, and it wasn't in my tank when the ich did break out. I just got those pink jewels 2 weeks ago.

Was this one added in the first or second batch? It could well have been an internal bacerial issue which it was already carrying. Did it have any red streaks on its body? Was it eating correctly?

I got 4 Pink Jewels about 2 weeks ago, all healthy and fine and nothing wrong with them at all, eating and swimming healthily. Two days ago, I got 2 more. These were younger, smaller fish. The one that died was of the older batch. Like I said, there was abolutely nothing wrong with him the night before he died
No red streaks, he ate like a king. Gave my fishies a sunday treat, some freeze dried Hikari brine shrimp.

Just a quick thought, he was found next to the filter intake, but i couldnt see any ripped fins. Sadly, I didn't get a good look. My dad scooped him out and flushed him away before i could really "examine" if you will
