I had about 10 cherrys and 3 crystals in my Fluval Edge along with 10 lampeyes, now today I lost 2 crystals and 4 cherrys and I think its due to the high temperatures we are having here at the moment, its situated in a south facing dining room and today the Edge thermometer went off the scale at over 30c, I did a 50% water change and made sure the water was a lot lower temp than the tank but what can you do when the weather is like this, its the only thing I can put it down to as I did a water test and everything was fine.

You might be able to get away with freezing some soft drink bottles of water and floating one or two in the tank, changing them out as they defrost and replacing with more frozen ones. Other wise if its a close top tank you could took the top/ hood off and have an oscilating fan blowing across the surface (this will also increase evaporation so watch your water levels) or if you have a good LFS near you you might be able to get a fan that is designed for fish tanks.

I had crystal reds but they couldn't survive Queensland heat in summer and slowly all died out when my tank stayed over 30+ for over a couple of weeks.

Hope your heatwave doesn't last too long
