Well, this is a really big shock to me and I don't know what to say really.

In my 10 gallon resides the following:
-5 Whiteskirt tetras
-2 Cories
-1 Male betta
-1 Dwarf Frog
-1 Common Snail

In my 40 gallon resides the following:
-3 Guppies
-2 Angelfish
-3 Spotted Zebra Danios
-2 Lyre Swordtails
-1 Ballon molly

10 Gallon Water Chemistry:
-79F Temp
-7 Month old tank
-0ppm ammonia/nitrites
-6.8 pH
-Contains drift wood
-Carbon Filter

40 Gallon Water Chemistry:
-79F Temp
-2 Month old tank
-0ppm ammonia/nitrites
-7.4 pH (high range test kit) 7.8 pH (low range test kit) who do you trust?
-Carbon Filter

Feeding habbits:
-10 Gallon
Once a day, usually around dusk. Tetras get tetras flakes and cories get algae disks (they share with my betta and snail and frogs.... frog =\ )
Feed for only 2 minutes, I feed one pinch.... It is small!

-40 Gallon
Also around dusk, I feed once a day. Tropical fish flakes usually but I find my Danios like other types of food as well!

Now with all that said, the BAD news.
Last month I bought an angelfish that appeared to be rare to me. He was totally black and I was really impressed with his look. Bought him Friday, while doing my water change in my 40 gallon he started swimming upside down. I thought the water might have been too cold for him (it was about 10F degrees cooler). So I moved him to my 40 gallon to discover that he was doing the same thing. He died over night and I realized that there must have been something wrong with him. Now, I think whatever was wrong with this fish, it might be making my other fish sick? Possible?

Last week I bought a female betta and I was so happy! I was going to breed her. She was not in my 40 gallon for one night and she was dead. Her eyes appeared to be bulging out her head.

Last night Frank (solid black ballon molly) died and he was on the bottom of my 40 gallon with his eyes bulging out his head.

This morning, I found my male betta floating at the top of the water dead with his eyes bulging out of his head in my 40 gallon!!

Later this afternoon one my african dwarf frogs died that I have had for over 6 months in my 10 gallon! Again, his eyes appeared to be the same as everyone else that has died.

I feel like I am running a fish morgue here. I'm really upset and I feel like giving up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I have lost some of my favorite fish in 24 hours!!!

I hope an expert out there is reading this and might be able to help me..... Please

OMG!!!!! That is horrible! I'm sorry that I'm not the expert you are looking for. Have you been doing MASS water changes? Maybe that will help keep it from spreading. Also, do you use seperate nets/buckets/stff for each of your tanks? I'm so sorry.... :byebye: :byebye: :byebye: :byebye:

I did a 25% water change in both tanks yesterday and I'm planning to another one today. I'm not sure what this is but I am going to try my best to get rid of it. I just feel so horrible that these wonderful fish died under my care =\

That is truly terrible!!! sorry i can't give any advice as i am a newbie, i can only offer my condolances :(

Ben

You didn't do anything wrong probably. I would keep doing the water changes daily, and hopefully someome on this site will know what's going on. Good Luck!!!

Really sorry about your fishies, its a worry when they keep dying for no apparent reason im having the same problem but its my guppies that are dying an i have no idea why. :(
Hope you get to the bottom of your fish problem.

hmmmm had this problem happen in my cichlid tank. At first I thought it was the obvious POP EYE. But after reading up on it, You would have noticed signs before they just went off and passed away. (i.e. cloudy eyes)

Since my cichlid tank was completely healthy and up and running for over 6 months, after researching and asking around, I chalked it up to a Bully. or Bullies! (that just decided they start to be mean) IME I had one bully in my cichlid tank, who would only attack at night. The fish whom he killed I found on the bottom of the tank, with their eyes bulging and mouths wide open, as if they were scared.

Not 100% sure that this is what is happening in your tank, but since you've pretty much been disease free, This is what made me think of it.

Or as I mentioned above it could be pop eye which was introduced by the new additions. Just to make sure, Add some Melafix to the tank as a precautionary. My bala shark had pop eye and after adding melafix for 7 days straight, he survived and has been fine since.

Keep on with your water changes. And I wish you the best of luck!

Trust me I know how sad and depressing it can be when you loose a fish that you love and have had for awhile. But life goes on and there are plenty of fishes in the SEA. LOL ok ok that was corny.

Good Luck though!

Sorry about the fish :byebye: Seems odd  that the same thing is happening in 2 different tanks. I would suspect 1 of 2 things. If the angel was in both tanks it could be that it brought a disease with it but since it took a month to occur i am not convinced that is the case. The other thing is that it has to be something in common with both tanks. The water...have you checked the tap water lately or noticed anything different with it. The use of nets etc in both tanks without disinfecting them may be another possible cause as it could transfer the disease from one tank to another. HTH

Egads! I'm so sorry. :(

Your water parameters look great. There's only two things I would think it could be - disease or something foreign in the tank. Like tstenback, I don't think the probability lies with disease, although it can't be ruled out. Think hard about something foreign in the tank. Not soap? Or an aerosol sprayed in the air around the tanks lately? Or some other chemical that might have touched something that got put in the tank (e.g. algae scrubber, net, hands, etc.)? Used any water additives altely? Particularly new ones? Done a wter change with a bucket that's had something else in it?

I would continue with the partial water changes. I might do more than one in a day, but not more than 25% or so at a time. Change 25% and a few hours later, change 25% more. If there is something foreign in the tank and your carbon isn't getting it out ,water changes are about the only thing that will.

Hope it turns around soon! :/

pendragon!
