Hi Everyone,
My male betta is in a 5-gallon tank with a heater set to 80 degrees. He's been very happy and active. Eats from my hands and attacks and jumps at my hand when I clean his tank (thinks I'm giving him food).
Over the weekend, I finally added in a filter. It's a Whisper PF 10 made for 5-10 gallons. I've covered the intake with foam to prevent fins from being sucked in and also put a ton of foam around the out take to make sure there isn't a current.
Well, today, I went to change his water and discovered he had built a bubble nest (his first one). I scooped it out with a spoon and began syponing his water for a change. Well immediatly I noticed that he swam around where his nest was and saw it was gone. I then filled his tank and returned his nest back in!
The whole time I did the water change, he did NOT try to swim up to my hands. Normally if I put my finger up to the tank, he'll swim up to me. Now he's skiddish and swims and hides.
Is this him just adjusting to the filter or should I be concerned? He seems almost depressed
In the 5-gallon without a filter he seemed totally content. I only bought him a filter because there was a lot of white gunk coming up when I sucked up his water.
Any thoughts?
