Hello everybody, Lucy here.
I am new in the topic of tropical fish, and I have just recently(six hours agow) aquired some new fish for my aquarium that I got as a gift for Christmas.
My parents have had tropical fish tanks before, and seem to know what they are doing, however a problem has occured with my suckerloach. I have introduced him to the tank, with no problems, but I am worried that the new tank is too clean, and there will be nothing for him to feed on for the first couple of days/week.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how to supliment his diet until the tank is right for him?
Many thanks
Lucy

Do you know what type of fish your 'suckerloach' is? I cant give you advice to what you should feed him until i know :good: . Does he look like the picture below? Because if he doe then you will need to rehome him or take it back to the shop, read this. My uncle has one and it killed some of his tetras and makes life hell for his angel fish, im going to rehome it for him.

Approximately 40mm long, a bright shade of orange/yellow, has a black dot between his jet black eyes, and is not bothering any of the other tetras that are in the tank with him, also there are two black markings on his tale fin.
I am just worried about his dietry needs. He looks very freindly!!!

Here is my Golden Variety. It was bright yellow as a 1" youngster, but over the past few years, has become more of a blotchy cream / yellow.
Mine is in a 47.5 US gallon community and around the 3.5" mark. So very slow growing over almost 3 years.

As said, these fish can certainly be aggressive and territorial - and especially when larger 5" + but this depends somewhat on the tank set-up and other fish. If kept in a community tank, exercise care and caution and monitor behaviour - especially when adding new bottom dwellers to the tank.

On the plus side, they are great characters indeed and fantastic algae eaters. Though it's also said that the eat far less algae (or stop entirely) when they reach 5" +

Shops are always very reluctant to take these fish back at that size, so think very carefully before getting one !

I was reading the page that you advised me to go on, and it turns out mine is exactly this! Although I am still stuck in terms of the foods

BUY THOSE REALLY SMALL FEEDER FISH YOU CAN GET FOR LIKE 10 CENTS AND GIVE IT THOSE THAT WAY IT WON'T HURT YOUR OTHER FISH AND MOSTLY ATTACK THEM. (MOSTLY IS THE KEY WORD)

No, don't. Buy algae wafers from your lfs or petshop :good: . gallum8's advice is a bit cruel and 100% unnecessary, also it wont even eat the feeder fish, they suck the slime coating of fish. Plus the feeder fish would be too small. If you see any signs of aggression, return to the lfs or get a separate tank for it. There will NEVER be any need to feed feeder fish.
Nice fish though, i used to have two when i was 9 lol, but i had alot of unsuitable fish when i was 9. Maybe one day i will be able to get one again.....

Ok thats a golden algea eater... and WHY would an algea eater, which doesn't eat fish, want small feeder fish?! That's not smart at all gallum think before giving the wrong information and end up leading to a disaster please! anyways, algea waffers are much better for your algea eater, also with the bacteria growing in the tank he should find some food as algea eaters don't only eat algea as their name may suggest but they will also eat any leftover flakes on the bottom of the tank (usually), how large of a tank did you get? and what kind of fish? :D I'm interested :p I love my little babbies :p lol good luck with the set up :D
