My male and female pair of golden severums have successfully bred, and the eggs seem to be fertile(no whites)! They laid them on a piece of red and white slate sometime today. Ok, now for the questions: what do I need to do? I'm going to sell one of my saddles to get a 75-gallon tank, but what other supplies do I need? What type of 'procedures' or 'regimines' do I need to follow? What food? I've been waiting for this for over a year, and now I'm panicking ! Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

P.S. If you need saddles/horse supplies, let me know ! Must sell to afford Smeagle's(male) and Preciouses'(female) babies!

I don't care if you changed the topic :p!!! lol... It's becoming quite interesting, and once I get over my "panicky" stage, I'm going to attempt to answer a lot of questions on it :good:. I'm going to try to get some good pics tommorrow :)! Thanks!

I've had fertile-looking eggs from my severums 3 or 4 times now, and they've always turned white after 3-4 days and been eaten.

If they do hatch, are you able to move the other fish in the tank? If you can, leave the babies in with the mother, and she should raise them on her own. If you have other fish in the tank, there's a good chance the parents will just eat the eggs/fry.

Take out all bottom feeding fish and sucker mouthed fish such as pleco's. They will probably eat the fry to protect them from other fish. Crazy eh? This may happen in the first couple 'o spawns but they quickly learn how to become good parents.

Thanks, but the severums have their own tank with no tank mates :). Should I move the male out and leave the female in with the eggs?

Dont touch them. They'll both become good parents soon enough. Now the real fun of fish-keeping begins. Watching the parents heard thier babies around the tank. Good fun to watch

Question: I'm going to leave the male and female with the eggs, but I have an Emperor 400 power filter that could suck up the "wrigglers". Could I slide the filter over and put a divider between it and the severums? They would still have a lot of room. I just want to give these eggs/potential baby severums every chance.

put tights over the intake. it will sertanly save the babies. but could make you water abit dirtyer than normal. you will just have to do 10% water changes everyday. andcongrats on the eggs :D

Cut some stockings/pantyhose out and attach it to the intake using a rubberband. It just wont do its mechanical job but as DiscusAngel said do 10% water changes for the first 2 weeks or so. Got the baby brine shrimp hatcheries ready?

:-( :/  They ate their eggs..... Before I could get pictures. But I still plan to take pics of my pair. It's sad, but I realize that it is a part of life, and I plan to hopefully help the next breeding work out better. They are still displaying breeding behavior though.

Once theyve bred im sure theyll try again. and they will eat some next time and then eventually none as its their first time... they wernt good parents but they will be soon!! dont worry, but sorry for your losses :(
