i have a community tropical tank that is 96 litres.

im due to move house on the 15th march so am looking to change substrate. currently have cushed slate but am bored of that.

any ideas what i can change to? ive heard of black sand is this any good?

Hi Laura
I use pool filter sand, which can be purchased from any swimming pool shop/suppliers (check yell.com for ones in your area)

I havn't seen black sand in the UK in bags bigger than 5kg so it may workout expensive for you to use that, but if budget is not a problem then go for it.

You may wish to use tankmaster (in my sig) to workout how much sand you need.

i juts used plain old Play Sand!

just rinse it well, looks great!

I have black tahitian moon sand in one of my ten gallons, it looks great but it is not very cheap. I am planning a new mbuna setup and intend to use regular playsand at less than 1/6th of the cost of tahitian moon. I also read about a product called "Colorquartz" made by 3M. It comes in different colors, but I couldn't find anyone selling it. Maybe you would have better luck. Also I'm not sure on the cost of it.
