I currently have a 55g tank and maybe looking at a 2nd one soon if i get lucky.
(Clay is enriched with ferts that I was told was good for plant growth got from a green house in the summer forget what kind it was)
I am looking at different methods of substrates, I currently use Clay granuals 2" thick and 1.5" of stones
What I have used before in a 30g tank was Soil (Earth) 2" deep 2" mixed peet moss and clay granuals 2" of very fine rocks, I really liked the setup i had for over 2years the problem was when I decided to move and went to a bigger thank I didn't want to use soil base I found that the peet moss went moldy and had mold through out the substrate, not only that trying to find my cooly loach in the substrate was a pain.
Any suggestions on why the soil did that on the 30g tank, I used excel for co2 cheat, florish products, patasium, Iron, and some others I can't remember. Was all from the florish family but now they don't sell them here in canada, well i have a hard time finding them and can be pretty pricey!
(Also looking for a cheap alternative to using liquid ferts, am kinda interested in powderform that I could mix for myself)
