those lights will create excessive heat in the tank
its best to get one that goes on top of the tank

the 2nd link might work
i think its an LED
but the first one is like a cold cathode or flourescent light
and will get pretty hot

I have the second one. It is attached to an air pump. The light is just the top half. It works great, and does not get hot. The only problem with the whole unit is that the light shines streight up. With just the light part, I think you can adjust the direction that it shines.

really, how long did you have one for?

the heat of a fluorescent tube is dependent on the wattage. i'm not sure that it will have any effect on the mean temp of your tank.
but i have never burnt myself on my cold cathode tube i use for moonlight, in fact it is never more than warm!!

my guess is that they will both do their job, though i'm far from convinced that these lights are more than just deccor. and the bubble light makes one hell of a noise in the tank, yep i did have one, but my neighbour has it now!

First one is flourescent tube, driven by a high voltage inveter... I'd guesstimate around 5 Watts of heat, which may save on heater costs - or tip you over the edge in summer ! I suspect these are more "water resistant" than water proof.
I personally wouldnt put these IN water...

The second is an LED device, LEDs produce no heat so are safe to use, as well as being low voltage... and are designed for submersion.

I have got the second link lighting in my tank, the only difference is that my one have only a single LED in them. I have aimed them at my rocks as i have an air stone under them, and the lights catch the bubbles coming thru.

My only dislike to them is that I got a green and blue in the standard pack, the blue does not show up much, the green is much brighter and shows more. If i was to move my tank and pull all the wiring out, then I would replace the blue with another green.
