styrofoam under tank

this might sound stupid to some of you but, how exactly do you place the styrofoam under the tank??

-Do you make it fit within the bottom plastic rim, in direct contact to the glass???

or

-Do you place it below the plastic rim, without touching the bottom glass???

I cut the styrofoam so that it is a little larger than the tank-so that it is not touching the glass.

Isn't the whole idea for it to touch the glass to protect the glass bottom as well as giving the tank a stable even surface??

mmm, I thought it was just to give an added security to balance the tank and have all the weight distributed evenly...

thats my dilema, both ways sound right, I just don't know which one is better, or correct

You are supposed to layer it between the bottom of the glass tank and the top of the unit you are standing it on. The styrofoam/rubber/piece of carpet absorbes any inperfections between the two surfaces and gives an even weight distribution
