Hey,

I have had my tank set up for some time now and have had a lot of problems with my water readings.

Can someone please advise what the recommened readings are meant to be. I was told once but cant remember for the life of me

Many Thanks

Hi Alimak,

The kinds of numbers one hopes to see from a test run are as follows:

Ammonia (NH3) - zero ppm
Nitrite(NO2) - zero ppm
Nitrate(NO3) - about 5 to 15 ppm above whatever nitrate(NO3 level the tap water tests as

pH - close to whatever the tap water is and maybe anywhere between roughly 6.4 and 9.0 and one hopes whatever it is does not change much from week, ie. is stable.

Both ammonia and nitrite(NO2) need to stay below about 0.25ppm for the life of the fish for it not to sustain permanent damage that shortens its life (which is why fish should always be introduced to a tank that's been fishlessly cycled, ideally.)

Thanks Waterdrop had a few problems to start off with but don't want to end up with the same problems again

Thanks again
