stupid petco

On a recent trip to petco looking for some bolivian rams, I noticed something very stupid. I find one ram left in a tank with... a firemouth and a green terror. I say to the guy working there, Why do you have a ram in with those cichlids, to which he replies, that's another firemouth. ?? How can anyone confuse a ram with a firemouth? After I showed him his fins were just about gone and he should move him he tells me something even more brillant. He says, I had them in with the red devils until a couple of days ago. As I watched this GT and FM chase and nip at the ram constantly I saw, of course, the the rams had lost all color and literaly almost all his fins had serious damage. I could not take it so I brought him home and he is with my other rams and his color is coming back after a couple of days. Stupid Petco!

good job dolphin. the petco's here dont seem to have quarintine tanks n they sell fish that they got the same day. i bought some angels from them 6 to be exact n they all died. im glad that ram has gotten a better caretaker n owner now.

the problem there is that you even would look for fish at a pet store. if you want good fish, dont buy them from people that deal a little bit of everything, go to a FISH store because all they do is fish so they know what they are doing. i think that people who buy their fish from pet stores like petco, petsmart, etc. are too stupid to be in the hobby.

Buying livestock from places like petco is only encouraging them to keep doing what they are doing. I know us fishlovers only want what's best for the fish, and I know it would have been hard but you should have just left it. It may cause problems for you, and you are supporting a quote on quote "evil" organization. Petco is too stupid and ignorant to care about their fish, and they really shouldn't be trusted cause all they care about is making money. I bought two clown loaches from them and that's how I got ich in my tank. I have learned my lesson. Whenever I go to petco it is only to buy hardware for my tank and I prefer not even to go to the fish section so that I am not tempted to buy some sick or ailing fish.

I was very disturbed a few days ago while visiting my local petco. While walking into the fish section i discoverd 2 seperate tanks, both with a dead clown trigger fish. I love these fish, and to see 80-100 dollar fish just die do to neglegence....it just doesnt seem right. Plus in my opinion they are one of the most fascinating fish on the planet

my petco is actually really good, theres almost never any dead fish in the tanks, sick and new fish are quarentined for at least a week, fish that don't get along with each other are never mixed either, the water and tanks generally look clean, and the people working there don't give ####ty advice when it comes to tank mates

of course though, whoever their getting their gold and tiger barbs from keeps giving them inbred ones, and they never have anything new or unusual...can't get any plecos but common ones there, no rams either...

the local petsmart however..that place is a nightmare
all of the fish are sick generally, no quarantine tanks
fish that dont' get along with each other are constantly mixed, i mean some of it is pretty stupid stuff (danio's with oscar, bettas with tiger barbs)
they don't clean out the dead, and good god are there a lot of dead...
the same day they get the fish they start selling them, the next day they're all dead, no joke, i've seen it, entire stocks of fish all dead by the next day...
and the employees don't know what they're talking about (like today someone bought cichlids to put in a bowl because the employee said it'd be fine)
the tanks are disgusting, as if they've never been cleaned, or only get cleaned once a year

walmart is even worse...

My petsmart is pretty good. I see a dead fish occasionaly, 3/4 of the people that work in the fish section know a lot, they give accurate tank sizes and mates, and they give me advice.
