actually, since you keep tearing the tank down to get rid of it, you've had what is at most a month-old tank all this time! i suggest that you try the usual 20% clean-up routine for a while (although you're gonna have to do daily 10% until the cycle completes.) see if that helps.

OK thanks for your help guys! Will start 10% daily water changes as of today, add more plants, but one mreo thing - how about snails? I have PLENTY in one of my bigger tanks, if they'll be ok in cold temperatures. They wouldn't suck on my black moor's slime coat would they? :)

so long as you don't mind having them, i recommend snails for any tank as a clean-up crew! they can live in a much wider condition range than pretty much any fish, so you should be covered in that aspect. i also seriously doubt that they'd be able to latch on to your moor.

since snails will eat just about anything, go on ahead and add them to the tank.

I don't think that the algae growing in my tank is too much but my Mollie does not eat the algae. I find that my small Platy fry and Cherry Barbs eat more algae than my Mollie (if he eats any at all) - I think he's a very picky eater.
