Is it possible for betta fry to have stunted growth from tanks too small? I know they can from disease or genetic defects, but like guppies and such, can they get stunted by small living quarters?
From what I understand, if you don't do frequent enough water changes it can stunt growth because the fry release a hormone to stunt other fishes growth. But that might just be a myth.
the hormone thing is fact. Its easier in a larger tank as they fry have more space and you dont need to be doing masses and masses of water changes to keep the hormone levels down. Plus with more space to swim your fish will grow healthier and stronger
as long as you keep the water very clean and water change often to keep the hormone dialuted there should be no readon why they wouldn't...Unless you have like a 100 8 week fry in a 4 gal but thats just common sense. You thinkin of doing a spawn then?
I of course would not do that hehe. I was just thinking of maybe not raising them in a 55 gallon, but more of a 30 gallon or something if dad doesn't eat the eggs this time.
I want to spawn my white/green marble SD soon. In another few days/week. Hoping everything goes well. I have never actually succeeded in raising any fry to adulthood... sadly. I have had hatchlings, but they got eaten aswell. I can only hope I don't have a cannibalistic male this time.
I keep having dreams that they begin spawning but can't get the wrap right.
