With these in place can you not fit an external filter?

that link is invalid; however I've seen what they are and to have an external with one of those all you would have to do is put the pipes on the sides.

It would be a Juwel tank i'd use the background for so im guessing I can't put the pipes on the sides since there is only a gap for pipes on the back??

Would the background be safe to cut if so cut holes big enough so that the pipes can go through
