They hold for a month or so. I wouldn't strip her of her fry unless she looks bad. Like very sickly and not healthy. She will get skinny. If you decide to strip her, this is what I'd advise to you do (I got good results).
Wet your hands before removing her from the tank, as your dry hands may strip her of her slime coat. Then, having a good grip on her (hold her spines down my sliding your finger over them and not moving your hand), tip her upside down, and take a cotton swab to her mouth. Be gentle. Her jaw wont be hard to open. Just get a little whiff of cotton to catch her jaw, that's all that is need. Once her mouth is open, dip her head in the water, and fry will swim out. Do this for several minutes, as if you do not get the fry out, she still wont eat. Then, you would have threatened her life for no reason.
