Striped Kuhli Loaches And Gravel?

I just read somewhere that Kuhli loaches can only live in sand substrate. Is it true? I already ordered new gravel without thinking about it.

They can live on gravel, but anything with barbels is best kept, and much happier, on sand, IMO.

yeah i realize that now, but its too late i guess. I bought a few plants so i think itll at least give them a place to hide.
