Stressed Fish Owner Of Stressed Fish!

hey ickle, your selection will be very limited. My suggestion is to get another neon tetra to round up the school of 6. then a silk plant and some cherry red shrimps. That will be a pretty good looking biorb.

I am glad you did the research on fish and not kept 3 goldfish in there like the cover suggested. GJ on that.

Buy a water test kit to keep ammonia and nitrite in check, neons are pretty sensitive to water conditions.

I've been thinking about it and I think the betta may not have liked the biOrb because of the disturbance to the surface water caused by the inbuilt filter which bubbles up in the centre of the bowl. He seems happier now that I've moved him to a bowl by himself - but I'm still going to bring him back to the LFS.

The Neons look much more colourful now that the betta is gone. But I'm not sure if they will get over the shock as they seem to be delicate fish. I hope they survive!

Just out of interest, what sort of fish do poorly in a bowl with alot of disturbance to the water surface?

right i lost interest in this thread because everybody is slateing biorb's they are a genius step in fishkeeping for big community they are a no no but you could easily keep a little group of neons and a dwarf gourami in them i am buying a biorb for a dwarf puffer so the fact is biorbs are f#good for small fish but not big communitys
p.s before you slate things get your facts straight

Biorbs are a backwards step in fishkeeping - a goldfish bowl with an undergravel filter.

They can be used for a few small fish but they are difficult to maintain, hard to aquascape so the fish feel secure and usually overcrowded because people follow the inhumane directions.

The substrate makes them unsuitable for a dwarf puffer -you'd need to use smooth gravel instead.

ickle, birob makes an excellent betta tank. All you need to do is get a control vavle(like $1) for the air pump. And if you plan to replace the noisy air pump with a better one such as the whisper, most air pumps come with the control valve already. Then you can control the amount of surface agitation. Biorb is a good betta tank.

how about you get your fact straight? only reason to get a biorb is for decor purpose. 6neon in a biorb is fine, 6 neon in a regular tank is much easier to maintain.

1) the entire view of the biorb is completely distorted due to the shape, you will never see your fish clearly, and it will be very difficult to even see the tank buttom.
2) the substrate they use means no bottom dwellers at all, only some shrimp.
3) cannot even be used as a hositpal tank due to the way the ugf is designed and the rough substrate
4) None of the standard aquatic equipments will work such as hob filters, feeders, etc. Need to buy biorb only accessories - much more expensive and limited selection.
5) Difficult to cycle, and you can very easily get into a mini (or major) recycle if ANYTHING is touched
6) Difficult to gravel vac
7) I feel sorry for your dwarf puffer
