Hi,

I have recently purchased 2 red gourami and they are constantly doing a strange ritual. They seem to take up a 69 position (sorry!) and circle round.

Is this normal behaviour?

Yes, if they are both male, they are sparring. If its a male and female, its prespawning behavior. Females are silver in color.

Is there a quick way to tell? I have been under the impression they are both male but I'm new to fish keeping so I may be wrong. Do they have distinctive tells?

What species are the gouramis? There are red dwarfs and red honeys. As the others have said, dwarf females are silver whatever colour the male is, but I was under the impression that female red honey gouramis were red like the males?

Sorry i should have stated. They are red honey gourami
