Strange question possibly but hopefully getting my own place soon, which means...fish room, i wanna breed discus and wondering how many adult danios would equal 2 adult discus? with regular feeding, just to keep a cycled filter going or to help cycle a filter for a new tank, obviously rather go over the odds with the danios so i know full well that filter will be able to cope with 2 adult discus (5 inch plus) Did think of doing it with goldfish but transition from cold to tropical wont be ideal for the filter or goldfish, so danios prob best choice i like them as fish aswell when i'm not using them they can go in my guppy tank(s) thanks for any input :good:

It depends on the size of the tank but i would say start with 6 or 7. Then add 3 discus or so after a good month. :good: Hope i helped.

Why not use tetras? :) Though hardy danios prefer cooler water too, they would be fine in discus temps apart from much shorter lifespans, but I'm sure tetras would be more comfortable oxygen-wise.

Could try tetras, see what takes my fancy at shop i guess but with temp difference i can always elevate the temp slowly before introducing discus take the danios out at 28 or something

Why not spare the fish and do a fishless cycle?

wouldnt do a full fish in cycle, would seed the filter and add the danios as i go n build it up, just saves me hastle with too many tests if there was to be a little spike the danios will get through it fine, not done fishless either will stop me having to be so precise with timing of adding fish cos once the ammonias gone would have to add fish soon or the bacteria would die, just less things to worry about
