Strange Minnow!

I just added 5 more white cloud minnows into my tank and was wondering if they could interbreed with other species as one of them is almost completely white except from a faint bit of WCM tail and also his fins are longer and stick up more than the rest. Looking at his face he seems to have the same mouth shape as the others except form his head is also white.

I will upload a picture when he lets me as he runs away from my camera.

P.S. He doesn't seem to mind schoaling with the minnows but occasionally breaks off and swims around on his own for a while before rejoining the schoal whilst the others stay bunched together.

P.P.S. I just noticed that he is an irridecent pale blue along his sides and he can sometimes be aggressive and swims around very quickly.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a long-fin leucistic variety and common ones that you have. They are the same species, so will cross breed.

which one, the oddball or the normal ones (in that case i know what you mean but i assure you that these are coldwaters (they also go by the name of the poor mans neon tetra)). If it is the oddball you mean then no he is far too plainly coloured for that and nowhere near chunky enough.

The odd one out and no, not all tropical fish are hyper coloured, most are plain silver with no markings and streamlined. I was going to link you to the photo index on fishbase, but it might be hard to find your oddball.. still I'll dig up the link once that site is back online.

if it is a tropical then it should have died ages ago as after i did my water change the temp droped down to 14/16 c and is still only 19. He is definitewly coldwater then.

When i can and have time i will catch him and put him in a box so i can get better pictures of him.

Sorry to disappoint you again, but most tropicals can survive for some periods of time, sometimes even for months, in cold water Hmm, could it be a Aphyocharax alburnus? he looks very similar to a Boehlkea fredcochui but his mouth is upturned not forwaed facing. He won't let me get anywhere near him before he darts off but return back to the group after i have gone.
