2 of my black mollies stomachs balloned really badly about 3 days ago and i got all excited thinking they were pregnant but werent to sure as i couldnt find a 'gravid' spot what with them being black and all.

then today i come in to find them nice and slim again

i'm really not sure whats going on (maybe they had trapped wind ;) )

Well as a complete novice I could be way off the mark here, but anyway!

When I first brought home my 6 mollies (2 dalmation, 2 silver, 2 black) I realised that a couple were pregnant (fatties). Then suddenly they were thin again....... but no babies in the tank :/

After a few episodes of overinflated fish but no babies I really thought my fish were having phantom pregnancies...... until I finally spotted a solitary fry. The other mollies had been eating the fry as soon as it was born....

I kinda guess this could be happening to you!

hmmm, i was wondering that but shurely it would take longer than 3 days from conception for the fish to give birth right?

I agree, however I dont usually realise they have been up to it, until I spot them getting bigger..... by then i know the babies are imminent.... usually arriving within a few days..... I am currently waiting for some fry at the moment - I guess they will appear this weekend.

I had a similar problem with a guppy about 6 months ago, but he ballooned up with an obvious injury to his abdomen. (he died despite treatment)....
