Strange Film On Water

The water in my 5 gallon glofish tank has a weird film on the top of it....Its been there since the last weekly water change and its not noticable unless the water is disturbed....Its reallly weird, it doesn't smell and it doesn't seem to affect my fish, as they are fine and behaving normally. I suspect its due to an overdose of Bacteria Supplement, as the last time it was administered my mom added it in and didn't have a measuring cup so she guestimated a half a capful. It doesn't show on camera, so I can only describe it as the water in the tank itself is crystal clear, but the top is cloudy and the film is only noticeable if disturbed. Water parameters are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites:0
Nitrates: 5

Yes, could be that, or just the water conditioner you've used. It's quite common.

u know i had same film too in my 5.5 gal a few weeks ago. it started showing around the time when my wood started growing fungus on it. do u have wood in your tank? anyway, mine just dissapeared after i did a partial waterchange. maybe ur right though about the bacteria supplement. or maybe even a conditioner, like athena pointed out

It's generally fat from fish food, it can also contain plant excrement.

u know i had same film too in my 5.5 gal a few weeks ago. it started showing around the time when my wood started growing fungus on it. do u have wood in your tank? anyway, mine just dissapeared after i did a partial waterchange. maybe ur right though about the bacteria supplement. or maybe even a conditioner?sorry i couldn't help more, hope someone else will be able to give u a more definite answer!

No, my 5 gallon tank is pretty newbish...only gravel and one sad, plastic plant...Lol don't worry, i'm setting up a 20 gal as we speak for the little fishies. I use Top Fin Water Conditioner and Bacteria Supplement. The conditioner removes chlorine and heavy metals from tap water while providing a slime coat for the fish...at least, thats what it says. The Bacteria Supplement just removes ammonia and starts up a bacteria colony....I think the film is just bacteria having a party

It might be that too...when I'm unable to feed the fish in the morning my dad or sister do it...and they go overboard on flake food....I usually just scold them and the do immidiate water changes when i have time, but i guess there must be some still rotting in the gravel...Oh well, its almost time for the weekly water change anyway

Its the fat/protein from fish foods and fish waste etc, its why in marine tanks you use a protein skimmer (much more of it in marine tanks) and why a lot of people keeping 'tank busters' use a surface skimmer that takes water from the surface of the tank to the filter as generally, tank busting fish eat a lot of meaty foods.

Stir it up, cut down feeding, check stocking levels, get better filter, move filter/inlet higher up to agitate the surface....
