I realized tonight that in our busy schedules we don't stop often enough to appreciate the things around us. It is good for all of us to just stop, take a deep breath, and look at what we have around us. Enjoy the wonders of nature.

No trees, grass or plants where I live. Nothing but concrete, bitumen, buildings and cars as far as one can see. Oh and a great heat haze rising up from everything. Hell, there's not even any birds around here.

Welcome to Perth, Western Australia. Where idiot governments think it is good to make rock and stone cities on the edge of a desert, instead of replanting the place like we should. Then they complain about the heat. Well that's what happens when you have a concrete city with no shade and lots of internal combustion engines warming the place up.

yes the heat is getting to me, another 39C day.

Can you take a photo, just to give us an idea? It sounds like a bad day in Detroit, USA.

I prefer my below 0°C / 32°F at this time of year ;) I don't have to mow my lawn. Which takes 8 hrs 😂
Photos with date as of november, but they were taken two days ago in december... Don't know what's my Motorola doing naming those.

That is a big lawn. We have 2 acres and it takes me around 1.5 hours. I'm trying to do the math, but that is a big lawn.

Maybe it would be quicker if I could use lawn tractor - I can't because I have to watch out and avoid cherrie trees etc. They are not big enough for me to be able to go under them with tractor, so I have to use string trimmer. Luckily sometimes someone helps me with this task and it takes half as much :)

And, now that I think about it - I don't know if using lawn tractor would be any quicker... I will plant a forrest there and call it a day - no more mowing 😅

Im really lucky where i live, im surrounded by nature. Nothing better than taking the dogs a walk and blowing off the cobwebs

These pictures are of Cannock chase which is on my door step:)

I've been living in a North American suburb for a few years, to be closer to work. My natural habitat is crowded, urban areas, where I had a lot more balconies than yards. But since I recently retired, I can't afford to live in the working class areas I come from - they have become extremely gentrified. That's a twist.
I decided that rather than live where I am, neither here nor there, I would go find that beautiful place you guys are looking at.
In a few weeks I'll be in a house with a view of the Atlantic ocean. Behind it, I seem to have an entire herd of wary deer living in the woods. I'm told there may be moose in the marshland about a km away, which I don't exactly like, but I'll just stay out of their way. In 2 minutes, I can be at a large natural pond, in 5, on a clifftop walking trail, and I'm 2km from a UNESCO park. But to ease the culture shock for the urban creature I am, if I get in the car, I'm 10 minutes from a properly grimy industrial city.
Plus, there's a building between the deerpaths and the house that is insulated, and is going to become a very good place for fishtanks. I don't think we should forget that for a lot of the people here, once we get our past ceramic skulls and day-glo gravel phase, a tank can become a view of nature, and a garden full of life. I have plans - tanks, houseplants, gardens, hikes, kayaking...

Those Cannock Chase photos are beautiful, but such a different environment.

Lovely picture of the lake, can you post some more from different angles and include a bit more above the trees?

Blimey I wouldnt have guessed Staffordshire from those! We got our dog from a place in Stone and there is some nice countryside that I saw on the drive but not that level.

Cannock chase is unreal Wills. It was a former royal forest. Its 79km² so you could go for a walk every day for the rest of your life and still not see it all.
