I want all of you out there to spread the word to stop fish getting dyed!!!!!!if you see dyed fish in ur shop then tell them to stop supplying them and remeber when the buying stops the dying can 2 iam making a website for this very reason and would like all your support please

My LFS sells blue dyed Botias, they look awful, but you know they sell like hot cakes. It will be difficult to get the shops to stop selling them if they sell that well.

Mark.

Glad to see this post, the sooner these malpractises stop the better they are giving the Ornamental fish trade some bad press attention. Name and Shame the Lfs who stock such fish. Obviously they're not bothered about the fishes welfare just as long as they can make that extra few quid.

Call in and tell them you are not happy with the situation regarding the dyed stock they are selling Dorkhedeos, What's the worst that can happen!!

Don't blame the stores...they are in business to make a profit and no other...why don't you run down to your local aquarium and free the killer whale being kept in small tanks ??? -_- what about Betta's being kept in small cups is that ok to do ??

If you don't like dyed fish that choice is up to you and you only...try to inform people so they make the right choice.. :)

posting negative comments about stores will only hurt there business...in turn hurting all the fish they have ( even the non-dyed ones )

just my 2 cents...

As you'll see on the forums, many of the members are very much against the whole dying process. Its good to see more people know about the whole situation.

well, they can stop giving me good deals on stuff. worst that can happen is that i get kicked out. i dont speak chinese well so i cant explain much to them.

id agree with grey legion on this one.

Fish shops in general are cruel. They keep 2 foot long arowanas in 30 gallon tanks. Like he said, they are in it for the money. So the only way to stop it is to inform people about it. Maybe talk to ur LFS owner and ask them if they could post something on the tanks of the died fish just to notify people?

It`s gonna be hard to get dying to stop because so many people buy the dyed fish without knowing it`s so harmful,or cruel people just don`t care and buy the dyed fish for their own stupid amusement

Thanks, I am getting sick to death of all the "we gotta stop the dying of fish" :sly:

It won't stop and nothing you or I can do will stop it...people will buy them...heck I have 3 in my tank right now, bought them 5 years ago when I did not even know what a dyed fish was. But I tell you it got me into the hobby again and now I am hooked...I don't agree with dying fish..but I also don't agree with cats and dogs being kept in small cages in a pet shop and animals being kept in old and outdated zoos...but they do...

The sad part is they are fish and 99% of people don't look at a 2-3 dollar fish as being anything more than that...that is what you need to change...most if not all people on this forum know that dyed fish are wrong, so you making your complaint in the wrong place...make some pamphlets up and hand them out to customers going into a fish store ( stay on public property ) do something real !!

if you really want to make a change in your area then do so, but I think you would have more luck trying to stop drugs or guns before people would care about fish...

Sorry to sound harsh, but just because we love fish does not mean everyone else sees it that way...

:/

Yeah i agree, as much as i hate people dying fish and selling them there is little you can do about other than educate your lfs owner and perhaps hand out little leaflets...
Even if say you managed to ban dyed fish in England they would only produce more in other countrys where there are no laws against such things. Im not saying just because theres not alot you can do about it, don't bother- if you can do somthing about it then all the best luck to you.
When it comes down to it there are more important things in this world(dare i say it: shock, horror) like gun/drug crime, forests being cut down and lack of beds in hospitals etc than dyed fish. If you are going to change anything in this world it is via politics; protesting does little to help a situation other than make concern for it more apparant but little ever gets acheived by it; in fact it appears that it just makes it harder to get things done in the future and people quickly brand you as "just another green peace protester".
...... ...... ......

My LFS sells dyed fish, and that is their best sellers. I've talked to them, and they wish they could stop selling them but it's what keeps them in business. Well, they were...they stopped selling dyed fish and almost went broke and are now ran by a franchise  Now they are back to selling dyed fish. It's what keeps the business open and guys like me in there buying fish to breed and raise that aren't painted.

I help advise what fish and colors my lfs sells because they almost turned to stocking dyed fish. When it comes down to it there are alot of very colorful fish out there that are naturally colorful that people can stock instead of dyed fish, mainly livebearers. People are always breeding brighter new colors in fish; you can get guppys in pink, blue, white, orange, yellow, red, purple, green, blach, grey, white, brown etc for example and they come in a variety of metallic sheens in them and patterns.
People buy dyed fish because of their color and rarely for what the fish actually is. I think to combat the dyed fish situation you need to educate people of all the wonderful colors already naturally available in fish and that dyed fish rarely ever have their colors last, let alone live.
When you combat people who only care about the money and image aspect of fish you need to persuade them that they can get better value for money with natural fish instead of trying to educate them about the moral aspect of it because they don't care about that. You can't change everything, and you can't give people morals either but i think this situation is more about finding a way to banning dyed fish than spending your time teaching people the morality of the situation...How you go about it is everything.

most actual fish stores are not cruel it's dumb people who buy an arrowna and then give it back to them when its two feet long that makes the problem the problem like said is not with fish stores but the people buying these boycotting a fish store is useless, they won't miss a hundred dollars in sales from you I never spend more than that yearly on fish so yor just hurting yourselves, they have enough peole who don't know much to support them
