Man, always talk to the ones who really know what they are doing. Never settle. I mean, I have researched the festivum cichild, and it is kind of like, depending on their personalities or something, they may or may not eat plants. Beavis, at the store, tells me that they are South American cichlids, so they are carnivores and won't eat plants...lol. I wanted to give the fish a go anyway, so after I stopped grinning at his pink eyes and flat affect, I bought the fish. I get the think home, acclimate it, and it starts munching Java Moss, of all things in the tank! Java Moss! I guess it has that vegeterian type of Festivum perosnality!

Well perhaps he has never had any meat to eat. Have you tried feeding him some frozen or live worms. Perhaps then he'd leave the java fern alone. I bet he would like earth worms. I use to cut them up for my betta.
