The two small clowns you have what are there full name?

Welcome to the forum Brian.
The clowns, if they are clown loaches, will eventually get too big for your tank which is probably why Erk asked.
The best and fastest way that I know to cycle a new tank is to clean one of my dirty filters in it and let the new filter suck up all the stuff that gets released when the old filter gets a good cleaning. Have you read up on how to do a fishless cycle? If you haven't yet, there is a link to it in my signature area. Running a filter on an empty tank is not cycling that tank, it is wasting time. A cycle means having ammonia processing through the system and that means you need an ammonia source. The one we favor here, because you can do it with good control, is some of the pure ammonia that you can get in the cleaning aisle of some hardware or home improvement stores. One of the frequent challenges for a person just starting out is finding ammonia without dyes, surfactants or perfumes. Each year it is getting harder to find plain clear ammonia.
