Hello everyone,

So I've currently got a Juwel Lido 120 Litre tank (amongst others - recently moved some fish into other tanks), heavily planted, with the following;

x3 Common Hatchets
x5 Emperor Tetras
x3 Cardinal Tetras
x2 Kribensis (Paired up)
x2 Peppered Cories
x3 Amano Shrimp

Can anyone advise as to whether that set up of fish is getting the best out of each species and the numbers are about right? I was considering increasing the number of Cories but wary of the Kribs potentially spawning, so far there hasn't been any issues. The Amanos tend to hang in the Star Grass up and away from the Kribs so that's ok. Thanks

hi there,

in my experience, cardinals should be kept in groups of 5+ and corys in groups of 4+.

hope that helps,

L :good:

Hello Laura,

Thanks for that. I agree, and the same applies for the hatchets from what I understand (+4). My concern would be if I upped the numbers on each to what you recommended I'd be overstocked. Thoughts?

Erm... i don't think that the corys would overstock you or the hatchets imo. plus the cardinal and a few shrimp. would be ok

Bit off topic but, I love your tank. I have just got a lido 120 and this is some great inspiration! :good:

Great Job!

Yeah you can easily sort your schools out in there :)

I would look at something like

x6 Common Hatchets
x5 Emperor Tetras
x10 Cardinal Tetras
x2 Kribensis (Paired up)
x6 Peppered Cories
x6 Amano Shrimp

Those Lido 120s are a nice tank and great for spawning cichlids with tank mates because of the square shape!

Your tank looks great as well!! Really nicely done and a good combo of fish, no problems of conflicting fish and no problems with big fish either! Well done!!

+1! you would be able to do the above no problem. your tank looks great btw!!

Can I honestly have 29 fish in a 120 litre tank? The people at the lfs seem to think that's too much.

Oh and thank you for the comments regarding the tank, I never really wanted a heavily planted tank but the quickness of their growth changed that!

As long as you keep have a good filter and keep on top of the water changes you shouldn't have problems.

I have the standard filter which comes with the Juwel so I assume this is good enough? What % weekly water changes do you recommend? 20%?

Thanks!

50% for a new tank.

20% in a few months when it's mature

But with such a planted tank you will pro let find your ammonia/nitrate levels won't rise as quick. :)

Thanks, the tank is about 3 months old and have been doing 20% water changes recently, was doing 40-50% during the first month or so.

I'm thinking I might up the Cardinal population asap however if the Kribs do spawn and I've got Krib fry I might need the extra space.
