hi everyone i'm a newbie here with a question. i've just brought a new tank a roma 125, i've put nurafin cycle in the tank when i set it up, i also swapped the new water with water from my other tank ( 6 months old). i've test the new tank 2 day running and my anmonia is 0.4mg, nitrite 0.1mg nad nitrate 0mg that was yesterday. today i've tested and anomina is 0.0/ 0.1 mg, nitrite 0.1 mg and nitrate 0.0mg when will i be able to add fish.

why do i need to add ammonia? i didn't do that with the other tank

probably because you didnt do a fishless cycle on your other tank and made them suffer through a fishy cycle

Hello and welcome to the forum. :hi:

Running the tank without an ammonia source doesn't do anything to get it ready for fish. Cycle is pretty much a useless product. General consensus is that it (and all the other "bacteria in a bottle" products) don't containan beneficial bacteria. Apparently Cycle must contain some ammonia since you have ammonia present in your tank.

The best thing to do since you already have a tank running is to take some of the filter media from it and add to our new tank. You can safely take up to half of it. The bacteria in the existing tank will double in about a day to make up for what you took and you shouldn't even see a mini cycle. The media you add will give you a jump start on bacteria and would allow you to add a small amount of fish immediately or proceed with a fishless cycle which should go rather quickly with the seed media.

Until you hae either cloned the tank or added an ammonia source and cycled the tank that way, you aren't ready for fish.

i was only asking a question which you didn't bothering answering, and for your information my tank cycled for 6 week with out fish

i did answer it, and you didnt cycle your tank you just left it standing with nothing in it for 6 weeks, not adding ammonia which is not cycling

i've add the water and the media from the other tank 4 days ago since then i've tested and i'm getting the result that i posted in the top post

if i didn't cycle it how comes the ammonia and nitrite when sky high then when to correct levels

who knows but if you didnt add ammonia or fish then you didnt cycle it

Adding the water doesn't do anything since there are no beneficial bacteria free floating in the water. They are attached to surfaces, mostly the filter media. Moving the media was the right thing to do but when you didn't add an ammonia source, the bacteria probably died off.

thanks rdd1952 validated it now clicked on wrong link first time. shall i add more media in a few days with bacittes (sp) the stuff you put in the filter little ball things

That should be fine. I've never used bactinettes but the word is that they work as long as they have been kept refrigerated. When you add them though you will have to either add an ammonia source or fish to produce ammonia or the bacteria will die off again from lack of food.

so i could bactinettes and fish and do a fish cycle

From all I have read you can but I have no personal experience with it. Just keep a daily check on ammonia and nitrite and do water changes as needed to keep the levels (if they are present) as close to zero as possible.
