I did ask this on another thread, but it was part of a different question, i wanted to make a stand alone post...

I have a 60L Biorb, I'm currently cycling it Fish-in with 2 tiger barbs... i know its a bad idea but hey, biorb instructions and LFS suggested it.. so I'm stuck for now, i will re-home the barbs post cycling...

Once the cycle is complete i want to stock it with fish for my GF but i have no real idea.. I'm really open to suggestions on what to stock here so i can look them up and then look for a LFS that stocks them....

The G/F likes fish like the neon tetra's and the bright coloured fish with big tails? lol.... sorry i don’t know names, she likes colourful fish...

Can you experts suggest some good stocking options for me and i can look up the fish and she can choose?

This would help me so much...

her fav colours are: pink, purple sand black

thanks all

Hey,

Sorry I thought I had posted a reply was late at night... I really like the look of the big tailed fish here.. the guppy?: http://www.aqua-fish.net/imgs/fish/guppy3.jpg and the Harlequin rasboras look nice... how big do those apple snails grow ? the image make them look huge maybe big for my tank, being a Biorb there is not much in the way of floor?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Cheers,

-Peter

Guppys will be fine although you wont find them with fins that long in your average LFS lol.

Harlequins would easily work

Apple snails get abou 2-3inches in diameter i think

African dwarf frogs are another option.

Frogs and Snails! now your talking lol.. can i have both.. and do the frogs need somewhere out of the water to rest?

i like the look of those frogs, can i keep them in the Biorb, even though they have nowhere out of the water to hang out?

Correct me If I am wrong, but, I don't think that ADF need a place outside of the tank. I owuld ask in the reptile forum, as I am not sure about this matter.

How about this stocking
6 Harelquin Rasaboras
6 Neon tetras.
2-3 Cherry shrimp
Maybe an apple snail.

Frogs don't need access to land but have to reach the surface to breath as they don't have gills. They can be tricky to feed.

Yes, I have read where they have poor eyesight so you have to feed them with a trukey baster literally right in front of their eyes.

There not that hard to feed at all.

Just use the turkey baster to put the bloodworm in front of them and they can smell it out.

They are totally aquatic and just need a little breathing space at the top of the tank :good:

great, im deff going to get a couple of the frogs, a snail and a few shrimp... ill get the baster to feed the frogs too, i see they like bloodworm, do i need anything at the bottom of my tank, currenty i have those big smooth Biorb black stones and some of the stones that come in the birob starter pack..

No not really, I don't think they need anything special. How does this stocking sound to you?

6 Neon Tetra
6 Harelquin Rasaboras
1-2 Cherry Shrimp
1-2 ADF
Maybe an apple snail, If you want one.

They should be ok it's down to personal taste just make sure there is nothing sharp or anyway that the stones could fall and trap one of the frogs. Frogs staple diet should be bloodworm.
So current stocking is:

2 ADFs (african dwarf frog)
1 apple snail
5 shrimp (cherry?)

this leaves you with a little more room for i'd say one maybe two shals of smaller fish? so you could have:

5 male guppys
5 harlequin rasboras

That would complete your stocking i would say, take a look at google images and see if you like the sound of all that for your set-up :good:

i like it! i think im set on that one so far... just need to finish this cycling now... :( its a waiting game.

I would up the Harelquins to 6. But keep the guppies at . Make sure they are all males though. I don't want him to have too many shrimp, because there is not a lot of floor space in a Biorb, so Maybe 1-3. They need a sufficend number to be happ, i.e. more than one.
