Stocking Questions

Hi all!

I was supposed to have gotten my new tank today but unfortunately the shop had taken down the offer on it but i was told by an assistant that the offer will probably most likely be put back on next week as it was only taken down as the stock levels on the tanks have gone down. seems silly to me! As you can imagine im pretty disappointed-have my sand, gravel, terrace rock and a couple of ornaments all ready for it aswell!

So i have spent the day reading up about a few things instead. The planned tank is 64 litres and at the moment i only have my 2 ADFs to go into it. I will definately be getting a male Betta also as ive had my heart set on having one for years. I planned also to get some more frogs to have a bigger group again. Was thinking of adding 4 more to my original two-does that sound ok stocking wise?

I dont want to overstock at all, but i have also been reading alot about shrimp and snails. I have considered setting up a small shrimp tank at a later date but wondered whether with my stocking plans if i would get away with adding any shrimp to the 64L tank? If i were to get any it would most likely be either amano's or cherry, but unsure whether these would get eaten by the Betta/frogs. Also if they are acceptable and i have room in my tank for them, how many should i think about getting? would i have to worry about getting over run with them?

As i said i have also been reading up about snails and after watching lots of videos on youtube of apple snails i have decided they are awesome little creatures! I would only really want one snail as i wouldnt want to have to worry about cleaning eggs from the tank all the time or becoming over run with them. Is it ok to have just one snail? And again with the tank size and planned occupants would some sort of snail be acceptable? If so, is there any particular type? the one i have read most about is an apple snail and they do appeal to me.

Apologies for all the questions, I just dont want to add anything to the new tank that isnt suitable tankmate and tank size wise, and most definately do not want to overstock! I will be reading up more on both shrimps and snails if they are suitable for the new tank before getting any so i know what im doing with them have already overloaded my brain with Betta info the last few weeks

Shamelessly bumping my thread If no one knows the answers to my questions, is there anywhere else i can find out? Just want to have a proper plan for stocking the new tank

The stocking of 6 ADF'S and a male fighter is fine, as long as your frogs arent ANYTHING like my african clawed frog!! He eats anything that moves, literally, regardless of whether it fits into his mouth, so please be sure that your frogs arent like this, or aren't big enough to eat your prized fighter! Also, snails make a fair amount of waste, my apple snail is pretty large and produces a fair amount of waste so you need to take that into consideration (i only have 1 snail so yes that would be fine) but the shrimp should be fine, providing your frogs dont like the taste of them ...

oh and also you'll need to make sure you have a good filter, froggies are messy eaters!

Thanks for the reply! Fortunately ADFs are very different to ACFs much more peaceful and definately wont be attempting to eat the Betta. My two are over 4 years old now and i originally had a group of 5 living in a community tank with no problems at all so have no fear of the frogs being a problem with a Betta. On my reading i have heard sometimes Bettas might not appreciate any tankmates but I will be watching the behaviour of the Bettas when i go to pick one.

I figured getting a snail probably wouldnt be a problem with Bettas and ADFs, it was mostly the shrimp im wondering about. I know its less likely that the shrimp will be eaten by either the frogs or Betta if they are of a bigger size but would just appreciate some advice from people who maybe keep these different species together to see if its doable.

And most importantly that my tank size is big enough for basically:
4-6 african dwarf frogs,
a male Betta,
an Apple snail
and perhaps a group of shrimp(no idea how many!)

so if anyone can help with my other questions id appreciate it
